What is the value of a Renaissance scholarship? The monetary value of scholarships vary, based upon factors including your audition, grades, needs of the Renaissance program for which you are auditioning, etc.
After my audition, how long until I receive my scholarship offer? You will usually have your scholarship offer within 7-10 days of your audition. (Sometimes, you'll have your offer as soon the very next day! We work hard to expedite this process.)
What are the four "programs" or "divisions" of Renaissance? Vocal, Instrumental, Theatre, and Production.
Can you participate in two (or more) divisions of the Renaissance Program? No. Because all Renaissance divisions rehearse at the same time, you will need to dedicate yourself to one division. (On rare occasions, however, a student may be asked to assist briefly in another division.)
Can you audition for two (or more) divisions of the Renaissance Program? Yes. Students may audition for multiple divisions of the Renaissance Program but will need to choose to participate in only one division.
Can you switch divisions? For example, what if you enter as part of the Vocal Program but want to switch to Theatre, Instrumental, or Production? The short answer is "yes," but only with permission from Matthew Holt, Executive Director. Also, it is customary to make these changes on an annual basis, before the start of a new year, rather than mid-year. Plus, be aware that your scholarship amount is based in part on the value you bring to the division in which you participate. Your scholarship could be impacted negatively by a switch between divisions.
What does "Renaissance" mean? Renaissance means "rebirth, renewal, or revival, especially pertaining to the arts." We desire in Renaissance to lead a rebirth and renewal of the arts (and of people) as we equip and empower our students.
Can I participate in Renaissance and a university athletic program at the same time? No. Because all Renaissance divisions and sports programs practice/rehearse at the same time, you will need to dedicate yourself to either Renaissance or sports. You may, however, participate in intramural athletics as your schedule allows.
How will participating in Renaissance benefit me post-graduation? In addition to helping pay your way through college, you will gain artistic and life skills. First, you will make real-world connections. Second, you will gain professional level expertise. Finally, you will develop personal relationships that will continue far beyond your time at Bethel University.
How long is my Renaissance scholarship valid? Your scholarship is applicable for ten semesters of study at Bethel University.
Do I have to major in music to participate in Renaissance? No. You may pursue the major of your choice.
Can I have a job and participate in Renaissance? Yes, as long as it does not conflict with your Renaissance rehearsals and performance schedule or your academic classes.
When will Renaissance show up on my schedule? If you are eligible for the pass/fail credit, Renaissance usually shows up on your schedule after the first week of classes.
